BBC Product Placement The Jammie Dodger In Doctor Who

In Doctor Who Victory Of The Daleks, the Doctor mentions a commercial product by name,The Jammie Dodger, which I thought was against the BBC rules!

Jammie Dodgers are a popular British biscuit, made from shortbread and raspberry flavoured plum jam. They are produced by Burtons Foods at its factory in Cwmbran.

Read all about them here.

OK, it might be bending the rules a bit …

But you do know Allison’s complaining you’re doing Jammy Dodgers down!!

Ah, you can get 'Jammy Dodgers' that aren't made by Jammy Dodger. It's like Hoover...

...and it's not like jelly babies wasn't product placement either. Bassets aren't going to be happy.

There was a similar mention of Wagon Wheels in Alan Partridge some years back - I don't think its a hard and fast rule..

Here in Spain, you can't do this on the public television (TVE).

Well product placement is usually at the behest of the company and as the BBC would be unable to accept money and/or a large supply of "Jammie Dodgers" it wouldn't count. If people are influenced afterwards to go out and buy many packets, well that's just incidental. Also in the script it could be written as Jammy Dodgers which is not technically the brand name. And lets face it as a self destruct device, it does have the look of the classic threatening red button.

I hardly think naming a brand name counts as P. P.

-Jeremy Clarkson compared every good looking car he saw, in a series of "Top Gear", as being like his ipod.

- The last series of the Mighty Boosh had plenty of logos on display.

But I do think Jammy D's will get a sales boost.

EXACTLY!

It’s a big, threatening Red Button!

The exact brand of Big Threatening Edible Red Button is irrelevant!

According to this the ban was lifted in February. However, it mentions sugary foods. If these are anything like the cookies we have at my job, sugar and fat are the best parts of them. *chuckles*

Actually, I wrote a complaint to the bbc because the jammy dodger they used was a tesco value one, not a real one. I corrected them on this as a joke and recived a letter telling me my complaint had been sent to the Board!

I think it's just supposed to be him asking for an exceptionally British thing while sitting behind the desk of the Oval Office in the White House.

I'm American and had no idea what they were.
