Last night saw the farcical
National Television Awards 2011, and what a joke they turned out to be, by putting two shows in the same
category that will split the vote. If you ask most fans of
Doctor who and
Sherlock, they will happily admit to being fans of both, and
that is where the problems arise, or as we call it
, the NTA vote rigging,
Doctor Who would have beaten
Waterloo Road under normal circumstances, and
Sherlock was in with a very good chance too, but put them together in the same
category, the vote is split and Waterloo Road wins. If you watch the video of the event, you see the
Waterloo Road team are as surprised they won as we were, they even had no prepared speech!
However there is still the
Who Cares Attitude, in 10 years time, which show will be remembered? Waterloo Where? As you have seen, its not hard to fix the results if you apply some thought!

You should take into account that the choice of shows that were to be pitted against each other was voted by the public as well, not chosen by the NTAs. The public was allowed to pick them from long list of nominees months ago. Of course, Sherlock and Doctor Who, being two of the most successful and popular dramas of 2010, made it though to the final round. You can't really accuse the NTAs of rigging anuthing. The fact that there was more good drama to compete with each other this year is surely a good thing?
However, a couple of years ago when they decided to condense the male and female categories into one Outstanding Drama Performance, therefore pitting David Tennant and Catherine Tate against each other, that could be seen as an attempt to split the vote. David Tennant won nonetheless, but the point is that there is some precedent to what you are saying, but it doesn't really apply in this case.
Also, it isn't the first time there's been other genre shows nominated in the Drama category, potentially splitting the vote. In previous years Doctor Who had to compete with Being Human and Life on Mars, for example.
who sells more dvds - DW or WR? who has more viewers DW or WR? its not reflective of viewing figures!
