Australia and New Zealand Cinemas Screen Series 6 Opening Episodes

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, some cinemas in New Zealand and Australia will be screening series 6 episodes in High Definition.

These showings will take place Thursday 14 March 2013 at 7pm.

The two episodes chosen for the screenings are The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon from series 6, with Matt Smith as the Doctor. These episodes both feature the latest monster Steven Moffat has created - The Silence.

This showing will be a “world-first multiple cinema screening for Doctor Who,” reports the DoctorWho.TV website.

A few cinemas such as Birch Carrol & Coyle Cinemas, Event Cinema, and Village Cinemas will also be hosting contests with prizes for the best dressed fans.

More information about specific cinema events can be found on their websites.

Sharon Wilson, Head of Marketing for Global Brands for BBC Worldwide Australia, said, “It’s an opportunity for fans to enjoy the programs and participate in the whole experience in a way that they’ve not been able to before. We hope this will be the start of more BBC Worldwide cinema events with our partners Event Cinemas and Village Cinemas."

A good choice for a two-parter to show on the big screen, although I also would have accepted A Good Man Goes to War / Let's Kill Hitler. I wish they were doing this in Canada though. Maybe for the 50th anniversary special.
