I was underwhelmed. A very good idea not born to an ideal fruition. The Tardis corridors/run around were rather a waste of time, I would like to have seen some sort of emotion by the Dr in the old console room, Idris was underused..it could have done with a 2 parter to develop her/Tardis character. After the hype I just expected so much more. Perhaps havinf such an awesome start to the series after the first 2 episodes, it has seemed an anti climax for the last 2 weeks, a 6/10 from me.

Wow, I loved it.

I actually liked it as a one-parter. It didn't give time for the gimmick to get old or run out. It was just enough for us to understand that this is who the Tardis is, without making Neil get too specific about what the Tardis would say if she had a lot of downtime with the Doctor. I prefer the little teaser of the relationship that whets our imaginations, rather than a lot longer to flesh it out.

The parts with Amy and Rory were very classic Who to me, which I also liked.

Very good episode in general, and Neil lived up to his hype. I think it may end up being one of my all-time favorites.

I agree with Pickwick12, one episode was perfectly fine, I didn't think it seemed rushed at all - and for those who think it should have been longer - remember that it was cut down a bit, and no doubt the extra scenes will be included on the dvd eventually.

I also didn't think those scenes in the TARDIS corridors were wasted, I really enjoyed them and I loved the look of the corridors - it was sort of a mix of Classic and NuWho TARDISes. Nephew was also suitably creepy, though I do wonder how he got into the TARDIS in the first place :)

I know I'm probably in the (extreme) minority here, but I really, really hate how the Moffat series continues to erase the RTD years. (This time *literally*)
Did it have to be the Tennant-era console room getting deleted? No. It just feels like a big *f-you* to anyone who loved the last five years of Doctor Who.

I can't help but feel that what made nuWho so successful in the first place was that it was a MASSIVE break from "traditional" Who, with the contrast between relatable characters and locations and the fantastical nature of the franchise bringing the stories to life. Any character development in this series has felt so tacked on - i.e. "Oh, time for some emotion, so character X (or, let's face it, Rory) will die". I don't claim to be a writer - but on the back of a very solid season opener, the last two episodes have been very strong in concept, but weak in execution - and what seems to be missing is humanity.

@Christopher I thought Neil was paying tribute to the Tennant years by showing Ten's Tardis console, something we would never normally see in the show again. It literally saved their lives in this case. I thought that was a huge thumbs up to the RTD years, not a put-down.

The scenes with Amy and Rory running through the corridors were...surprising in a way. I never knew Doctor Who could be this scary, but then again, I've never seen the classic episodes.
Overall though, I loved this episode. It really showed how great the relationship was between the Doctor and the TARDIS.

Liked this episode and in particular I loved the actress who played Idris. I too would have liked a 2 part episode to fully enjoy Idris and the Doctor together. In fact I would have been happy if they had deleted Amy and Rory and kept Idris. The pirate episode could have been dumped without affecting the story arc ( I hope we have seen the last of the pirates)to make room for the two-parter.
As for ten's console room, they probably used as it was in storage and was cheaper than completely redesigning and building a new one.
Corridors, umm. I just thought 'Cube' when I saw them and Amy going round in circles with the time differences.
So 8 out of 10 for the mad bitey lady.

Again I'm with Pickwick as far as seeing the RTD TARDIS interior again, I saw it more as a fond glimpse back at the RTD years than another instance of erasing those years. I do think the show needs to be able to erase events to move on and continue telling new and original stories - or it risks losing that crucial element of the companions being people the audience can relate to.

But I get what Christopher is saying - a lot of the emotional stuff in series 5 and 6 has felt a bit hollow, partly because Karen Gillan doesn't seem to be able to emote as well as Catherine Tate, Billie Piper and Bernard Cribbens can, partly because Matt Smith's is more subtle than David Tennant's or Christopher Eccleston's, and partly because Murray Gold's music in for series 5 and 6 has been less sentimental and more whimsical. The writing has also focused more on plot than character, on the whole, and while it might make for more complex tales it does run the risk of losing some of its audience by not getting viwers emotionally invested in the characters. But it's early days yet, we'll see how it goes. I'm already liking Amy a lot more this series :)

I agree with Pickwick12 that the episode was great. (That makes 3 out of 4 great ones so far this season.) And about what made it great. And that too much Doctor-Idris time would have more likely destroyed the magic than expanded it.

But I still think it could have been a 2-parter. There was so much to see that Neil could have gotten away with a leisurely exploration episode followed by the Doctor-Idris and TARDIS-chase episode. Don't turn House evil right away, explore the TARDIS graveyard (and drop the word "compassion" somewhere, just for the nerds), deal with the threat of not being able to get back into the universe before dropping the real threat, etc. Also, I would have loved to see the interrupted-adventure idea Neil talked about in the first Lost Scenes.
