Doctor Who's Average Audience for Series 6

Though the Appreciation Index for Series 6 has remained consistently high, the press has criticized Doctor Who for having ostensibly lower viewing figures. But the disclaimer they've been ignoring is that figures from the BBC iPlayer are excluded from the final consolidated ratings.

According to Steven Moffat, the actual average audience, iPlayer included, is 10.13 million, as it stands halfway through Series 6.

So congratulations to the Doctor Who team, and let's all hope—as though it isn't already a certainty—for continued success on the iPlayer and on BBC One.

OMF Why no full series for 2012 then?

You thought it was because of the ratings? Ridiculous! The ratings are just as good as they ever were!

Think about it—what comes after 2012? 2013.

Or if doomsday theories are true, nothing comes after 2012! :D

I know this really wont be exciting for anyone except for the handful of people who bought 3D TV's (like me!) but it really is a whole new way of watching things, and Avatar is immense in 3D.

Anyway, my point being is, with Wimbledon in 3D next weekend, and the rumors that there will be a 3D simulcast of the 2012 Olympics on the BBC HD channel (not to mention three specially commisioned 3D documentaries) I just hope that the 50th Anniversary Special may break new ground and be filmed in 3D. It is over two years away, maybe 3D will be popular enough.

Anyway, just a thought. And for all you naysayers and 3D-haters out there, I was in the same camp before I got a 3D TV. Heck, I loathed the concept of HD before I got a HD TV!

What this proves to me is that the BBC is disingenuous in allowing people to watch shows on iPlayer so close to transmission date.
If they shifted by a week, it would let people who missed it one week catch up, but it would also make more people watch it live.
It wouldnt cost any more, and you would see the ratings of EVERY BBC show soar!

What is the actual reasoning for changing the transmission dates and such? Is it just because the DW team want a change? If so that's fine. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't a couple of episodes of series 7 broadcast late next year and the rest broadcast in spring 2013 after a break? If this is true why can't they just broadcast the episodes from late 2012 - 2013 without any breaks? What is the point? Is there going to be another mid season finale? I hope not because I'm still having to be reminded there's no doctor who on this Saturday.

But is there a reason why iplayer figures are excluded? can iplayer track if the same person/computer has watched a show multiple times or is it more like You Tube, where the number of views doesn't necessarily corresponded to the number of viewers? i mean, yes, ratings may soar for some shows if iplayer is counted, but that doesn't mean the numbers will be accurate, just possibly wildly inflated.

well, yes, I was wondering that myself, if one watched it live, they might also watch it on itunes, people are funny that way, not unlike Gruber.
