"A Good Man Goes to War" will be Karen's 21st episode. |
Exactly one week ago Arthur Darvill inadvertently hinted that Series 6 would be Rory's last.
"Getting a part like Rory was great, but now, coming out of it, I need to go and do something completely different."
But the Ponds are, of course, married, so is it any surprise that Rory's departure probably means Amy's as well? While Arthur is committed to a Globe Theatre production through October 2nd, overlapping Series 7 production, Karen Gillan hinted at an end to her Doctor Who career during an interview with What's on TV.
The interview itself is fairly standard, just back-and-forth, but one exchange in particular catches the eye.
What are you doing next?
"I am playing Jean Shrimpton in a BBC4 drama We’ll Take Manhattan but I have just literally gone from Doctor Who to that so I haven’t had a chance to sit and have a think. I actually would really like to go home to Scotland for a little while and reflect on what has happened and then decide what my next move is, but I don’t know what that is yet."
BBC Four's We'll Take Manhattan isn't news anymore, and in a way neither is the fact that Karen Gillan will most likely leave Doctor Who after this year.

Good riddance. Amy has to be one of the most unconvincing and half-thought out characters in Doctor Who since the 80s.
i found her hard work, and more a clothes horse then companion bring back donna :)
I don't understand the Amy hatred. She's a very good companion, but people are comparing her to characters like Donna (see Combom's comment above), who's so much better.
Well, bare in mind I found Donna to be an atrocity on every level, I think amy is one of the best companions of new who and I will be sad to see her go.
@10thPlanet I totally agree with you. Amy is a great companion who doesn't become weak in the knees every time the doctor says something timey wimey and I like that, because it means that their motivation isnt because of their romantic feelings for the doctor like many companions have. That's why Donna and Amy are my favorite companions(in the new series at least)
i thought there was filming pictures with her in some future episodes?
@DoctorWhoGlobal I think there were pics, but they were from later this season. Even if she was to stay on there wouldn't be pics because filming hasn't started yet for series 7 (or 8 if you can't this as two series)
*count
No, nobody counts them as two - it's just Series 6: Part 1 & 2.
@Orm Actually, as much as I agree that it is one season, there's been contention over whether it has been one season or two.
isnt the alex kingstone interview in this months who magazine a bigger give away that shes leaveing?
she was talking about all the cast having secrets and said somthing like 'Karen was the only one who knew how amy would leave, i knew recently'
If you could get us a full, complete quote, we could use that.
It was kind of obvious wasn't it? They can't stick around forever. I'll cry like a little $#@&* when they leave though... :(
Alex says in DWM:
"Karen Gillan absolutely knows the future of Amy. She knows how she will end her time. I know it know, but I didn't for a while, so that was her special secret."
Quite sad, I liked Amy. Thought she was quite an independant companion, and probably is the most interesting because of her backstory in series 5 mainly.
Is she staying until the 13th episode?
