From months ago I seem to remember an old Doctor Who Magazine interview in which Steven Moffat explained a last-minute change for "The Time of Angels".
Apparently, when the filming crew chose to use a cathedral for the Doctor and Amy's museum visit at the Delerium Archive, director Adam Smith texted Moffat, asking for some explanation for the religious location shoot. Off the top of his head (unintentional), the head writer (intentional) replied that the Archive had been "the final resting place of the Headless Monks", a fairly innocuous phrase that would briefly but effectively solve the problems surfacing from the crew's sudden location change.
But could this phrase become a recurring theme, much like the Ood for Russell T Davies? Doctor Who Spoilers suggests that the Headless Monks might make a cameo appearance in Episode 7, which we now know is "A Good Man Goes to War".
A headless shot? |
. . . “Wierd alien monks” [have] been spotted on set during location filming for Episode Seven at Uskmouth Power Station. Well it looks like those monks could well be the headless monks who found their final resting place in the Delirium Archive. According to his Casting Call Pro listing, Claudio Laurini will be appearing in Series Six as a Headless Monk.
Claudio is a veteran Doctor Who monster, having appeared as a Ghost in Army of Ghosts, a Scarecrow in The Family of Blood, an Auton in Love and Monsters and an Ood in The Impossible Planet and The Planet of the Ood and he was seen sans-prosthetics in Partners in Crime as one of Mrs. Foster’s guards. If Claudio is indeed playing a Headless Monk, what could their presence possibly mean about the Battle of Demon's Run and the good man going to war?
