Torchwood Miracle Day 401 The New World My Thoughts

I've just watched Torchwood Miracle Day 401 The New World, here are my thoughts;

Ties to the past;
Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper.
Rhys Williams.
PC Andy Davidson in a cameo.
Jack claims to be Owen Harper FBI.
Jack still uses the Amnesia drug.
Jacks coat is new, but the same style.
456 is mentioned, but as something else.

My thoughts for 4-10 (IMHO);
All those who should be dead, will die.
Jack will die, but become immortal again, just as everyone else becomes mortal, he has already talked about series 5 filming in January 2012, so the assumption he doesn't die should be correct.

Questions;
Who wants to kill Torchwood and why.
Is Miracle Day to do with Torchwood, Oswald Danes or who?

This episode is mainly getting Torchwood back together, explaining Miracle Day, siding them with the CIA and moving it the USA, the adventure starts proper next week.

And the UK version looks to be 6 minutes longer, I can't wait!

Its basically Torchwood crossed with the X-Files, done very well, 10/10, Starz have done this show a great justice - and RTD is back, after his last year of Doctor Who he needed a rest, and its been worth it.

You can grab it here.

Esther was talking about the 456 amendments. So that leads me to believe after the incident in London the world made up new laws holding back government from doing anything as terrible as they did in that board room scene.

As we saw at the end, the 456 amendments apparently give the CIA the authority to render and extradite UK citizens, without any due process. And the local police even helped out, placing themselves under the direction of a CIA operative, under "orders from above".

That doesn't sound like governments being restrained. It sounds like the exact opposite.

Or, rather, it sounds like the UK government being constrained, while the US government unilaterally declares the right to override the sovereignty of even allied nations in the right kind of emergency. Presumably they used the UK government's handling of the 456 case to force their allies to agree. (Of course the UK always agrees with anything the US demands in the 21st century anyway.... It would be interesting to see if things played out differently with a less obsequious ally, like Germany.)

Also, the files Esther is looking for are "classified under the 456 amendments". So they give the government some new authority to keep things even more secret. Again, the opposite of holding back the government.
